I wanted to let you know about a sewer scheme which Anglian Water are due to start in Stamford next week.
They will be upgrading almost half a kilometre of sewer pipe in the town to enhance the resilience of the network and protect against possible future sewer collapses.
With work starting on 6th April, I wanted to give you some details as there will be some local traffic disruption whilst their teams carry out this important upgrade which is expected to be completed by the end of May, and will see more than 450m of sewer pipe along St Leonard’s Street relined and strengthened using an innovative no-dig technique.
The scheme allows them to refurbish sections of the pipe without having to dig up and replace the whole thing, helping them to reduce the amount of disruption to local residents. They will be relining the sewers using a specialist fibreglass liner inflated by air and cured in place with ultra violet lights, creating a new pipe within the old pipe, prolonging the life of the sewer for approximately 50 years.
To ensure the safety of their staff and local road users, a road closure will be in place on St Leonard’s Street. However, a diversion route and alteration to the one-way system in the area will be in place, with traffic approaching St Leonard’s Street diverted via St George’s Street and St Paul’s Street.
They have created a dedicated page about this work on their website at: https://www.anglianwater.co.uk/stamford-sr and they have already informed local residents and businesses directly affected and worked with the Town Council to carefully plan the best traffic management.
Their project team will maintain the dedicated webpage with regular updates as the scheme progresses.
Finally, I know the planned work on St Leonard's Street and Priory Road are not ideal especially at the same time, sadly as a Regulatory Body they can undertake this work as and when they need to and the Council is unable to prevent both pieces of work taking place at the same time, I know we will all hope this work is completed as soon as possible.
