I just wanted to provide a brief update on some work that is planned to be carried out to improve the condition of Stamford Tunnel on the Peterborough to Birmingham Line.
The work, Network Rail need to do involves repairing the steelwork in the tunnel so it can continue to be used in the years ahead. They’re planning to start this work after Easter, on Tuesday 6 April, and they expect it to finish in December.
They have carefully planned this project to minimise disruption as much as possible for people in the community. Safety is their top priority though, and this does mean that for some parts of this project we will need to arrange a road closure on the section on Barnack Road which runs over the tunnel.
Work is ongoing with Lincolnshire County Council to confirm dates and times for these. At the moment they are proposing road closures from 3 July until 23 August, and then from 11 September until 15 November. This would mean that Barnack Road can remain open during the first stage of the work from April until July, and also that they pause the project during Burghley Horse Trials so the road to reopen.
I’ll keep you updated as this project moves forward, but in the meantime do let me know if you have any questions about this and I will try to find out more information.
