Last week, InvestSK submitted an £8.1 million funding bid to Government for regenerating Grantham’s town centre. The bid has been produced on behalf of South Kesteven District Council and includes a number of projects designed to reinvent Grantham’s high street and boost the vitality of the area for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors alike.
The project proposals have been developed following extensive consultation with local businesses, strategic stakeholders and the general public, and include transforming the access gateway into the town, converting empty retail units into new homes and workplaces, and investing in other vital infrastructure and public realm enhancements.
Councillor Kelham Cooke, Leader of South Kesteven District Council and Chairman of InvestSK, said: “Grantham is a great town: it faces both significant challenges and major opportunities. With the Future High Street funding, we really can transform Grantham to make it an even better place where people want to live, work and visit.
“Bringing this bid together has been a genuine partnership approach between the council, InvestSK, private landowners and infrastructure providers, and it’s this collaboration - underpinned by the council’s strategic leadership - that will deliver our exciting vision for a more vibrant and prosperous Grantham.”
The Grantham ‘Living Town’ bid is supported by the local business community, local landowners and other strategic partners. Grantham’s bid will now join around 100 other UK towns shortlisted for a share of the Government’s £1 billion Future High Street Fund, with a decision expected to be made in the autumn.
