South Kesteven District Council Leader Cllr Kelham Cooke has welcomed a decision to provide Covid vaccinations in heart of the district.
Councils are working with the NHS to support the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, which is being rolled out in phases.
Cllr Cooke said: “We have been working to identify a suitable site for a Coronavirus vaccination centre and are delighted there will be one at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham. The Meres is an ideal venue – there is plenty of space, lots of parking, and is easily accessible.
“It’s good news for South Kesteven to have a vaccination site and to be able to play such a crucial role in a nationwide programme that will save lives. We look forward to the process being rolled out further in the coming weeks and months.
“SKDC is working to help the process go smoothly, as we thank our hard-working colleagues in the NHS for getting this up and running so quickly and efficiently.
“We would remind everyone to make their task easier by waiting for their local GP practice to get in touch. We must all be patient because it is a massive project to undertake.”
People who are 80 years old or over should wait for an invitation to be called for a vaccination appointment - there is no need for patients to contact their practice.
People should not turn up at their practice for a vaccination without an appointment.
The NHS is working on locations for additional sites and we there will soon be GP surgeries across the country supporting hospitals in the vaccination delivery, followed by larger vaccination centres in key locations nationwide.
